How to Reset ADSL Modem / Router Model 5792
Important Note:
Sometimes a reset is required when relocating to a new location or switch from one Internet Service Provider to another. The reset function on the 5792 does not perform a factory default reset. In order to perform a factory reset verify that your computer has the telnet client enabled. See the steps below to enable the telnet client.
Windows Vista and 7 users:
- From the Start menu, select Control Panel, and then select Programs and Features.
- In the left column, select Turn Windows features on or off.
- In the Windows Features pop-up window, select the check box next to Telnet Client, and then click OK.
Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 users:
- Right-click in the bottom-left corner of the screen (a Start or Desktop icon will appear), and then select Program and Features.
- In the left column, select Turn Windows features on or off.
- In the Windows Features pop-up window, select the check box next to Telnet Client and then click OK.
Next Steps after enabling Telnet Client
- Connect a computer directly into one of the Zoom ADSL Modem/Router’s Ethernet ports (labeled 1,2,3 or 4) using an Ethernet cord.
- Now go to the computer that is connected to the ADSL Modem/Routers via Ethernet. Make sure the computer is powered on. Also make sure the ADSL Modem/Router is powered on.
- Access your computer’s Command Prompt or Terminal:
- Windows XP users:
From the Start menu, select Run…Type cmd, and then press Enter
- Windows Vista users:
From the Start menu, select All Programs, then Accessories, from Accessories list right-click on Command Prompt, and then select Run as administrator
- Windows 7 users:
From the Start menu, in the Search box, type cmd, and then press Enter
- Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 users:
Right-click in the bottom left corner of the screen (a Start or Desktop icon will appear), and then select Command Prompt (Admin)
- Mac OS X users:
From the Go menu at the top of the screen, select Utilities, and then double-click on Terminal. (Note: If you do not see the Go menu, click the Finder icon in the Dock at the bottom of the screen.)

- When the Command Prompt or Terminal window opens, type telnet 192.168.1.1 in lowercase, and then press Enter or Return.
- At the Login prompt, type admin in lowercase, and then press Enter or Return
- At the Password prompt, type admin in lowercase, and then press Enter or Return
- Now type restoredefault (in lowercase) at the “>” prompt, and then press Enter or Return
- At this point you should see a message indicating “shell is being reset. Please wait…” or similar. Now you may close the Command Prompt or Terminal window.
- Now you can reconfigure the ADSL Modem/Router with your settings from your ISP (Internet Service Provider) by logging into the ADSL Modem/Router’s Configuration Manager
- Open a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari
- In the address bar field, type 192.168.1.1, and then press Enter or Return
- When at the Login Page, type admin in lowercase for the Username and Password, then click Login
