There are a few basic steps associated with setting up your Bluetooth wireless modem and establishing a dial-up connection to the Internet:
-
Connect the hardware.
-
Install any necassary software (if nor already installed).
-
Pair the Bluetooth modem with your computer and enter the modem's PIN.
-
Set up Dial-Up Networksing (DUN).
Connect the Modem Hardware:
-
On the back of the modem, make sure the selectable switch is all the way to the left, the side marked BT (for Bluetooth).
-
Plug one end of the supplied phone cord into the modem's Line port, and plug the other end into the telephone wall jack.
-
Plug one end of the included power adapter into the modem and the other end into a wall outlet or power strip.
Set Up Your Bluetooth Connection:
To set up a wireless dial-up connection to the Internet with your Bluetooth modem, you must have a Bluetooth Adapter. If you need to install a Bluetooth adapter, the basic instructions are similar, regardless of the brand of adapter. If your adapter is not yet installed, you should install it now, before setting up your modem's dial-up Internet connection. As part of your Bluetooth adapter installation process, an icon named My Bluetooth Places is installed on your computer desktop.
-
Double-click the My Bluetooth Places icon on your desktop. (Note: If this icon is not visible, go to Start > Programs > Bluetooth.)
-
A folder with the same name displays. Double-click the Find Bluetooth Devices icon (XP users select View Devices in Range). The Bluetooth software begins searching for any surrounding remote devices.
-
When the software discovers your modem, it places an icon named Bluetooth Modem in your Bluetooth folder. Double-click this icon.
-
A Bluetooth PIN Code Required box appears in your system tray, stating the need for a PIN (personal identification number or passkley). Windows needs this PIN to link your Bluetooth device and computer. Click this dialog box.
-
The Bluetooth PIN Code Request dialog box displays. Type the modem's PIN and click OK. (The PIN is located on the label on the bottom of your modem.)
-
Once the modem is paired with your computer, the My Bluetooth folder displays several service option icons, including: Dial-up Networking on BluetoothModem, Fax on BluetoothModem, Serial Port on BluetoothModem. Double-click Dial-up Networking on BluetoothModem.
-
If this is your first time using a dial-up connection, a Location Information dialog box will display. Enter your city or area code and then click Close.
-
The Connect To dialog box displays. Enter the user name, password, and phone number supplied by your Internet Service Provider, and then click Connect. The modem will dial. Once the Internet connection is established, you can open a web browser.
That's it! You've installed your modem for typical wireless use as a Dial-up connection.
