There are issues with Windows and some chipsets of USB host controllers. You need to verify that you have the latest drivers for USB and PCI IRQ steering.
- If your computer is running Windows 98 Second Edition and has an AMD (350 MHz or faster) processor as well as a VIA USB controller, you may need to install a patch file from Microsoft. For more information and to download the file, see Microsoft's article, "USB Devices May Not Work in Windows 98 Second Edition."
- If your computer is running Windows 2000, you should install the latest service pack from Microsoft.
- All users with computers that have a VIA chipset should install the latest VIA service pack (4-in-1 drivers) as well as the latest BIOS update. To determine if your computer has a VIA chipset, go to Control Panel | System, click Device Manager, and look under System Devices, or check your computer manual. To obtain the BIOS update, contact your motherboard or computer manufacturer. If you are not sure which motherboard you have, check your motherboard or computer manual.
