Model 4402: How do I set up the Wireless-N Router as a repeater?

NOTE: Before configuring the 4402 to repeater/client mode, make sure of the following.

• Does your Router Support WDS?. Check the documentation or contact the manufacturer

•  

• Write down the WLAN MAC address which is the 12 digit number under the barcode on the bottom of the Router (EX. 000000ABCDEF)

•  

• For wireless security, you can only have WEP-64 or WEP-128. Having security disabled works as well, but is not recommended.

•  

• You need to know the Network Key of the existing wireless network, if any.

•  

• You need to know the Wireless Channel of your existing wireless network.
• You need to know the WLAN MAC address of your main wireless router.

Once have done the above please follow the steps bellow to configure the 4402 to repeater mode :

1. Connect your computer directly to the 4402 router with an Ethernet cable. Open your web browser and type http://192.168.2.1, press Enter. You will be prompted for a Username and Password

    

   Username: admin
   Password: admin.

    

2. Once at the web interface, go to Advanced à Wireless settings à Basic settings.

    

   Do not worry about all the settings that you see here, just change the ones listed below:

   2. SSID = Enter a name for the 4402, ex: repeater, or maybe a descriptive name to identify the location of the repeater.
   3. Channel = Change the channel to match your existing wireless network.
   4. Authentication Method = If your wireless network has no security, change it to WEP – Auto and set the WEP Encryption to none. If you are using WEP change the Authentication Method to WEP – Shared and change the WEP Encryption to WEP – 64bits or WEP – 128bits depending on how your main wireless router is configure and for WEP Key 1 type the Network Key of your main router.

    

    

    

3. Click Apply and wait until the router reboots.

    

4. Once it is back go to the Wireless settings and select WDS.

    

5. Change the AP Mode to Hybrid.

    

6. Change the Channel to match your main wireless router.

    

7. Connect to APs in list = Yes.

    

8. Add the WLAN MAC address of your main router to the list and click Apply.

    

9. Once the router is back up, go to Basic Settings à DHCP Server.

    

10. Change “Enable the DHCP Server?” to No and click Apply.

Optional: If you would like to be able to access the 4402 for administration purpose in the future do the following-

1. Once the router is back up, go to Basic Settings à LAN Settings.

    

2. Change the IP Address to an IP in the same range as your existing network. Make sure use one that is out of the range of the DHCP server of your main router, and click Apply.

    

3. To test, reboot the computer, then try getting online. If everything went well you should be able to browse the Internet and access your network resources.
