The 4501/4506 cannot automatically set the Pantech UML 290 LTE modem to 3G. The Default for the modem is 4G. You need to set the modem to 3G before plugging it into the 4501/4506.
Step 1: Download the Pantech Modem Utility from the Pantech Utility site. You will have to register for this free utility application and it is Windows Only at the present time.
Step 2: Load the Application
Step 3: Connect the UML290 to the computer, and make sure the Verizon Access Manager is Closed.
Step 4: Open the Pantech Modem Utility: See Figure 1
Figure 1
Step 5: Click the “Read” button and it will scan for the current settings:
IMPORTANT: Make note of the default settings for the modem. You will need to reverse this process when you are in a 4G area to take advantage of the speed available.
Step 6: Under “Pref_mode”, check “CDMA/HDR Only” option. In the “HDR Service Configuration” section, check the “Rev A” option. See Figure 2
Figure 2
Step 7: Click the “Write” button to write the settings to the modem. See Figure 3
Figure 3
Step 8: Once the program is done writing, you can disconnect the modem from the computer and connect it into your 4501/4506. If the router is configured correctly, it will now connect via the 3G network.
Note: Doing the above will fix lock the modem to a 3G network. If you want to change it back to 4G, please refer to the F.A.Q. “Configuring a Pantech UML 290 LTE Modem for a 4GNetwork”
