The modem will work in a 4G areas as is. When you transition to a 3G area or you are in a 3G only area, you must use your computer to configure the Modem to 3G before you insert it into the router. If you have configured the modem to 3G, here are the instructions on how to set it back to 4G
Step 1: Download the Pantech Modem Utility from the Pantech Utility site. You will have to register for this free utility application and it is Windows Only at the present time.
Step 2: Load the Application
Step 3: Connect the UML290 to the computer, and make sure the Verizon Access Manager is Closed.
Step 4: Open the Pantech Modem Utility: See Figure 1

Step 5: Click the “Read” button and it will scan for the current settings:
Step 6: Under “Pref_mode”, check “Automatic” option. In the “HDR Service Configuration” section, check the “eHRPD” option. See Figure 2

Step 7: Click the “Write” button to write the settings to the modem. See Figure 3

Step 8: Once the program is done writing, you can disconnect the modem from the computer and connect it into your 4501/4506. If the router is configured correctly, it will now connect via the 4G network.
