Navigating in ZDTV
The ZDTV screen is designed to make it easy to find online content. There is a menu on the left-hand side. ZDTV includes links to a number of a popular sites for each category shown in the menu.
Mouse over a menu entry to see icons of these sites. Click an icon to open the corresponding website.
The site will open in a customized browser that is optimized for typical TV viewing distances. The browser opens in full-screen mode, showing as much of the site’s page as possible. In this mode, the browser’s toolbar is hidden. When the browser’s toolbar is unhidden, it displays icons that are larger than usual, so they are easy to see. Only the most basic browser functions are supported, to make the browsing experience as easy as possible.
For example, mouse over the Search/Browsing menu item to see the following selections:
Click Google. A browser will open to Google’s home page:
You can type in any search terms you like, and navigate to any sites you wish based on the search results. ZDTV lets you go anywhere you want, and provides tools to make it easy to use whatever sites you visit.
Now Playing
Minimize the currently open website to expose the menu page again. You may then open another site from the menu page. Several sites may be opened in this way. You may see the sites currently active by viewing the Now Playing panel. Open Now Playing either by moving the cursor to the extreme right edge of the screen in the region below the ZDTV logo, or by clicking the F2 key. The F2 key will also minimize any active sites. Mouse over the icons on the Now Playing panel to activate a control to open or close the corresponding site.
If you mouse over the Now Playing icon, you will activate a control that gives you three options:
- You may close all active sites,
- you may minimize all active sites so that you will see the ZDTV menu, or
- you may exit ZDTV and return to your computer’s desktop.
Note that in the example below, the Now Playing panel was activated by moving the cursor to the extreme edge of the screen while the YouTube page was displayed.
There is a third way that the Now Playing panel may be activated. If you attempt to open more windows than ZDTV can handle, you will receive a message telling you that you must close at least one active site before you may open another. When this happens, the Now Playing panel opens automatically, so that you can easily see which sites you would like to shut down.
ZDTV Toolbar
Press the F6 key or alternatively move the cursor to the top edge of the screen. You will see the ZDTV browser toolbar.
The ZDTV browser toolbar includes a standard set of navigation tools: buttons for Back, Forward, Refresh, Stop Load, and Print. To the right it also includes standard controls to minimize, restore and close the page. Below there is an address field.
