Question: I changed the LAN IP address of my Zoom Cable Modem/Router Model 5363 from the default of 192.168.0.1 (for example, to 192.168.50.1). This should change the LAN subnet in the example to 192.168.50.x. I set up port forwarding to a device on my LAN with a static IP of 192.168.50.x. However, the port forwarding rule I created keeps reverting to the default subnet of 192.168.0.x. How do I get around this?
Answer: Port Forwarding works without any problems if the 5363’s LAN IP address is left at the default setting. There is a known bug in the port forwarding rules for the 5363. These rules will not conform to changes in the subnet from the default of 192.168.0.x. If you can, we recommend that you change static IP addresses of any connected devices to the subnet 192.168.0.x, and leave the 5363’s LAN IP address at its default setting. If this isn’t possible, you may set up a DMZ for the device in question. However, note that this opens all ports to your device. You may need to configure a firewall in your device to address this issue.
