First, you must access the Zoom Configuration Manager and configure the modem's Wireless Setup from a wired computer:
- Connect your Mac into one of the Zoom ADSL X6v’s ETHERNET ports using an Ethernet cable.
- Open your web browser (we recommend using Safari or Firefox and that you turn off the pop-up blocker feature) and in the address line, type http://192.168.0.1. Press Return.
- A window will open asking you for a User Name and Password. The default User Name is admin and the Password is zoomadsl. These must be typed in lowercase. (Note: You may need to enter this User Name and Password more than once.)
- When the ADSL Setup page appears, click the Wireless icon at the top of the screen. This will take you to the Wireless Setup page. (Note: If these pages do not load properly, click the refresh or reload button in your web browser and try again.)
- Make sure that Wireless Status is set to Enabled.
- Enter a new SSID. The SSID is the unique identifier for your network. After you enter a new SSID, please be sure to write it down.
- The Hide SSID option should be set to false at this time. (Note: If you set Hide SSID to "true," your computer will not see the X6v's SSID when it goes to scan for wireless networks.)
- The Default Channel is set to 10. You only need to change this channel if you are experiencing slow transmissions or when your computer does a site scan and sees several networks on the same channel.
-
Encryption is where you set up security for your wireless network. To use WEP 64-bit encryption:
- From the Encryption drop-down menu, select WEP 64-bit.
- In the line labeled Key 1,enter five pairs of characters separated by dashes. For example, 12-34-56-78-90. Each character must be a number between 0 and 9 or a letter between A and F. Please take note of what characters you enter on this line, as you will need to enter this key on your Mac computer (more instructions to follow).
- Click Save Changes and then Write Settings to Flash. You must click both of these buttons to save your settings.
- On the Mac desktop, select Utilties from the Finder Go menu.
- Open the Terminal program.
- When the prompt appears, type telnet 192.168.0.1 and press Return.
- At the Login: prompt, type admin and press Return.
- At the Password: prompt, type zoomadsl and press Return.
- At the arrow prompt, type port wireless set Authentication Shared and press Return.
- Type system config save and press Return. You will see a message saying Saving configuration... .
- Type user logout and then press Return to exit the telnet session. You can now close the Terminal program.
Now, unplug the Ethernet cable and go to the Network preferences on your Mac computer. Follow the steps below for your version of Mac OS X.
For Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard):
- From the Dock or Apple menu, select System Preferences and then Network.
- Select AirPort in the list of network connection services.
If the options are grayed out, click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the window.
If AirPort is turned off, click the Turn AirPort On button on the right. - From the Network Name drop-down menu, select the SSID (network name) of your Zoom ADSL X6v. This is the SSID that you have entered on the X6v’s Wireless Setup page.
- When you try to join the network, you will be asked to enter a password. Type the encryption key WITHOUT dashes in the Password field (for example, 1234567890) and then click OK. Make sure the key you type here matches the one from the X6v’s Wireless Setup page.
- If your X6v’s SSID does not appear in the Network Name list, select Join Other Network (bottom of the Network Names list). When asked to enter the name of the network, type the X6v’s SSID in the Network Name field, select WEP 40/128-bit hex from the Security drop-down menu, type the encryption key WITHOUT dashes in the Password field, and then click Join.
- Click Apply on the Network preference pane.

- Ensure that the Airpot tab is selected.
- In the Preferred Networks list, select your X6v’s network and drag it to the top of the list, and then click OK.
