The following steps assume you have a working wireless network with the Zoom ADSL X6 router and that you know the network name (SSID) and WPA2, WPA, or WEP security key of that network.
Note: If you will be playing Nintendo DS games online, you will need to use WEP or no security. Refer to the X6 User’s Guide or FAQ 932 for information on how to set WEP 64-bit security on the Zoom ADSL X6. If you use WEP security, you must also assign a static IP address on the Nintendo DSi, as explained in the instructions below.
- Turn on the Nintendo DSi.
- On the DSi Menu, tap the Wrench icon to open System Settings.
- Scroll over to page 3 and tap Internet.
- Tap Connection Settings.
- Tap Advanced Setup.
- Tap None next to Connection 4 or another available connection slot, either 5 or 6.
- Tap Search for an Access Point. The DSi will now scan for available networks/access points that are within range.
- Tap the name of your Zoom X6’s network. If prompted, enter your security key and then tap OK.
- Tap OK again. The DSi will now attempt to establish a network connection.
If the connection test failed, do the following:
- Recheck the wireless security settings on the DSi:
- Return to Internet → Connection Settings → Advanced Setup and tap Setup Complete next to the connection slot you used.
- Tap Change Security Settings.
- Make sure that you are using the correct security method―"WPA2-PSK(TKIP)" for WPA2 or "WPA-PSK(TKIP)" for WPA―and that you did not mistype the security key. The security key must be the same as the one specified on the router.
- If you are using WEP security:
- The security key you enter on the DSi must not contain dashes. For example, if you had specified 12-34-56-78-90 in the Key 1 field on the X6’s Wireless Setup page, you must enter 1234567890 on the DSi.
- You must assign a static IP address on the DSi. Refer to the Assigning a static IP address on the Nintendo DSi section below.
- Tap OK to save the settings.
- On the X6’s Wireless Setup page, ensure that the Profile is set to 802.11g+b (this is the default setting). Also verify the Wireless MAC Filtering settings if you had enabled this feature.
- Check the X6’s Advanced Setup → LAN Configuration settings if you had changed those settings.
- Verify that the X6 router has Internet connectivity by testing the connection from a computer. If it does not, troubleshoot the router’s LEDs and refer to the X6 User’s Guide, available on the Zoom installation CD or on the X6 product support page.
Assigning a static IP address on the Nintendo DSi (required for WEP security):
Note: These instructions assume that your Zoom ADSL X6 router’s LAN IP address is 10.0.0.2, which is the default setting.
- On the Nintendo DSi, return to Internet → Connection Settings → Advanced Setup and tap Setup Complete next to the connection slot you used.
- Scroll over to page 3 and tap Internet.
- Scroll over to the Auto-Obtain IP Address page and tap No.
- Tap Detailed Setup and then enter the following:
- IP Address: 10.0.0.50 (or any IP Address of 10.0.0.x, where x is a value between 25 and 250).
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
- Gateway: 10.0.0.2
- Tap OK
- Scroll over to Auto-Obtain DNS and tap No.
- Tap Detailed Setup and then enter the following:
- Primary DNS: 10.0.0.2
- Leave the Secondary DNS field blank (000.000.000.000)
- Tap OK
- Tap OK to save the settings.
