The Serial Number is a long number with dashes. Its location depends on the type of product as detailed below.
Externals:

An External has a case and attaches via a cable to computers and/or other devices. The serial number for an External is located on the bottom of the product's case, below the barcode. The serial number and barcode are on the label that has FCC, UL, and/or CE information.
Internals:

An Internal has a bracket and attaches inside the computer. The serial number for Internal units is below the barcode, either on the metal bracket or on the back of the card.
PC Cards: (Analog, BlueTooth and Wireless 802.11b/g)

A PC Card is about the size of a credit card, and plugs into a slot of a notebook or other handheld device. The serial number for PC Cards is located below the barcode on the back of the card.
Cameras:

For Detachable Cameras the serial number is located on the back of the camera, below the barcode. The serial number and barcode are on a label that has FCC, UL, and/or CE information.

For USB Web Cams the serial number is located below the barcode on the label attached to the USB cable or on the bottom of the Camera, depending on your model.
USB Dongles: (BlueTooth and Wireless 802.11b/g)

A USB Dongle plugs directly into the USB port of a computer. The serial number for USB Dongles is located on the bottom or side of the product.
