Place any files you would like to share in your Public folder.
-
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
-
Click the Network icon.
-
Choose the port you are going to share on (When connected to an Ethernet hub choose Built-in Ethernet port) from the Show menu.
-
Click the AppleTalk tab.
-
Click the checkbox to select Make AppleTalk Active.
-
Click Save or Apply Now.
-
Click the Show All icon in the upper left corner of the window.
-
Click the Sharing icon.
-
In the Computer Name field, type the name for the computer you wish to appear on the network.
-
Click the Start button in the File Sharing section. Note:For Mac OS X 10.2 and later, select Personal File Sharing first and then click the Start button.
This process will need to be followed on all Mac OS X computers that wish to receive File Sharing connections.
Note: If your Computer Name is changed in the future, you must stop and restart File Sharing for the name change to take effect.
Managing shared data privileges
As an additional option, you can change the access privileges for items in your Public folder.
To change privileges for your entire Public folder:
-
Select your Public folder in a Finder window.
-
Choose Show Info from the File menu.
-
Set the Show pop-up menu to Privileges.
-
You may now adjust user access privileges for the folder.
Use the same steps for the Public folder items. The Show Info window in Mac OS X will automatically refresh when you select a new item in the Finder.
