Start File Sharing
To allow multiple computers to see and communicate with each other in a Macintosh / Apple LAN environment you will need to connect each computer to the LAN and then Start File Sharing.

Choose Control Panel from the Apple menu, then File Sharing from the submenu.

Click the Start/Stop tab, then click Start.

Enter an Owner Name, Owner Password, and Computer Name in the corresponding fields. You may have already entered this information using the Mac OS Setup Assistant.
At this point, File Sharing is active but only the owner can connect. There is no guest access.
Allow other users to connect

Click the Users & Groups tab in the File Sharing control panel

Select the user named Guest.

Click Open.

Choose Sharing from the Show menu

Click to select the checkbox for "Allow guests to connect to this computer."
Note: When Guest Access is enabled, anyone can connect to the items you choose to share. They will have the privileges that are set for "Everyone."
For a New User:

Click New User.

Give the user a name and password.
Sharing a folder or disk
You may share folders, hard disks, and certain removable media. To share an item:

Select the item you wish to share in the Finder.

Choose Get Info from the File menu.

Choose Sharing from the Show menu.

Click to select the checkbox for "Share this item and its contents."

Use the pop-up menus for Owner, User/Group, and Everyone to set desired privileges.
(Note: Everyone represents guest access, if enabled.)
